Handwoven Towels by Sharon

     Dish Towels are a really so much fun to weave and the possibilities are endless.  I usually like to put on a warp that will allow me to weave at least four towels at a time, six if I feel ambitious.     

     By putting on enough warp to weave multiple dish towels I'm able to adjust my warp colors and weave structures to achieve individual results.  Therefore, when I pair them up for gift giving (usually two at a time) they are all different.





       Loom N Essence - "Farmer's Market Dish Towels"

    During the summer months you will find me out at the Amana Colonies on Friday's demonstrating either my spinning or weaving at their local  Farmer's Market.   

     In keeping with the simplicity of prior times I am pleased with the response to these generously sized dish towels.
I used a 50/50 linen/ cotton for the warp in a natural color. For the weft I mixed it up with the same 50/50 linen/cotton and added color either in the band or a portion of the body.

                 Handwoven Cotton/ Linen Dishtowels

     
    This photo is a example of 6 different dish towels from one warp.   All were handwoven with Louet's Cottolin
(a blending of cotton and linen). The majority of my warp is comprised of a natural colored background with  a fusion of yellow, green and apricot stripes. For my weft  I used the same colors and varied the handwoven block/stripe designs to achieve a "same thing but different" result. 
    Machine wash warm water/ low heat cycle to dry.
